Crochet Blanket Sizes

Blankets are made in any size you choose, and depend on factors like yarn and hook size, yarn, pattern, and intended use.

Crochet blanket sizes are typically made to fit into certain spaces, like a crib, stroller, couch, lap, or bed.

While the exact measurements for each of those spaces will vary within a range, here is a handy size guide with cheat sheet that will help: What Size Blanket To Make.

Be sure to check the guide for tips that contribute to blanket sizes like borders, stitch repeats, and fabric weight.

If you’re looking for a range of baby blanket sizes to crochet, here is a range of some of the most popular:

  • Lovey: 12″ wide x 12″ long
  • Stroller: 30″ wide x 35″ long
  • Receiving: 40″ wide x 40″ long
  • Crib: 45″ wide x 60″ long

The Ocean Breeze crochet baby blanket measures 34″ wide x 40″ long, a great size for uses like a stroller or crib.

Choosing Yarn For Your Crochet Baby Blanket

There are a few characteristics I consider when choosing the right yarn for a baby blanket crochet pattern:

Yarn Weight

My favorite weight of yarn to work with to crochet blankets is worsted, weight 4, and whichever hook the yarn label recommends.

Yarn Cost

Because blankets are large pieces of fabric, I also consider the overall cost of the total materials to make the size I need.

Yarn Yardage

Caron One Pound is one giant skein of yarn, giving you 812 yards in a solid strand of weight 4 yarn.

That means your entire blanket is made without fastening off or reattaching yarn, with just a few ends to sew or weave into place when you finish.

If you want to give Caron One Pound in the color Ocean a try, I’m sharing my Amazon link (affiliate, at no extra cost to you).

When I crochet a baby blanket, I want to create a fabric that will be comfortable, easy to care for, and will last for years.

Adding a Crochet Border

Did you notice the contrasting light gray border around the edge?

I did that to add a finished edge around that was very simple, with stitches that would not bunch up or make the edges curl.

You see, to get an even border around a crochet project (that doesn’t bunch or curl), you just need to understand the stitch ratio to use around the edge.

You can follow the border instructions for this pattern to get the same even border pictured, and you can learn more about stitch ratios for borders right here: https://amzn.to/3QUHg6a

Gauge

  • 13 pattern Sts = 4”,

Size and Finished Measurements

  • 34”x40”

This baby blanket crochet pattern is written in just one size, to use one entire skein of Caron One Pound yarn.

To change the size of this stitch repeat, you’ll need to chain a multiple of 11 + 3 (+ 3 for the turning chain).

To find the correct multiple, you’ll first find a multiple of 11 that is the closest match to the blanket width you’re looking to create.

11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, 110… and so on.

When you have your multiple of 11, then you’ll add 3 because this is worked in a row and you’ll need to finish the repeat at the end to match the repeat at the beginning.

Finally, add 3 (which does not count as a stitch), so that you’ll have your turning chain just for height.
