This easy Basketweave Drink Tote is worked with front and back post stitches to create a super textured and sturdy design!

This pattern is worked in joined rounds of single crochet stitches and double crochet stitches, including the basketweave look. It’s a great pattern because:

  • This drink tote is a quick and easy project to work up!
  • Bags and totes are great projects to work up in warmer months!
  • This project works great with cotton yarns, and plant-based fibers!
  • You’ll get to practice a lot of crochet skills: joined rounds, stitch tension, gauge & size, front and back post stitches, finishing techniques & more!

Yarn:  

Knit Picks Dishie, Medium #4 (100% Cotton; 190yds, 100g): Azure (1 skein)

Materials: 

  • US G/6 (4.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors

Size: 

  • One Size: 12” around (6” flat) x 10.5” tall (without handles)

Specialty Stitches & Techniques

  • Adjustable Loop
  • FPDc (Front Post Double Crochet) = Yarn over, insert hook around post of stitch (front to back, then front), yarn over, reverse hook around post of stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.
  • BPDc (Back Post Double Crochet) = Yarn over, insert hook around post of stitch (back to front, then back), yarn over, reverse hook around post of stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.

Stitch Key: 

Notes:

  • Sc base and Basketweave are each worked in stitch multiples of 6. To alter Sc base as desired, stop at any round before 8, or continue past 8 by evenly increasing at a rate of 6 stitches per round.
  • To alter length as desired, repeat rounds 10-13.

Form adjustable loop

Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 1 (not a St, here and throughout), work 6 Sc into loop, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 6 Sc

Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 Sc into each St around, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 12 Sc

Round 3: Ch 1, [Sc into 1 St, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 18 Sc

Round 4: Ch 1, [Sc into next 2 Sts, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 24 Sc

Round 5: Ch 1, [Sc into next 3 Sts, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 30 Sc

Round 6: Ch 1, [Sc into next 4 Sts, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 36 Sc

Round 7: Ch 1, [Sc into next 5 Sts, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 42 Sc

Round 8: Ch 1, [Sc into next 6 Sts, work 2 Sc into following St] 6 times, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 48 Sc

Round 9: Ch 2 (not a St, here and throughout), work 1 Dc into each St around, Sl St into top of first Dc to join – 48 Dc

Round 10: Ch 2, [FPDc around 3 Sts, BPDc around 3 Sts] 8 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 48 Sts; 24 FPDc + 24 BPDc

Round 11: Repeat round 10

Round 12: Ch 2, [BPDc around 3 Sts, FPDc around 3 Sts] 8 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 48 Sts; 24 BPDc + 24 FPDc

Round 13: Repeat round 12

Repeat rounds 10-13 until 31 rounds are complete (ending on a round 11 repeat).

Round 32: Ch 1, work 1 Sc into each St around, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 48 Sc

Round 33: Repeat round 32

Round 34: Ch 1, work 1 Sc into next 7 Sts, Ch 30, skip 10, work 1 Sc into next 14 Sts, Ch 30, skip 10, work 1 Sc into last 7 Sts, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 88 Sts; 28 Sc + 60 Ch 

Round 35: Ch 1, work 1 Sc into each St around, Sl St into top of first Sc to join – 88 Sc

Round 36: Repeat round 35

Round 37: Sl St into each St around, fasten off – 88 Sl Sts

Finishing: Weave in ends, trim excess.
