This set of easy Market Bags is worked with a basic V-stitch to create a super textured and sturdy design!
This pattern is worked in joined rounds using basic stitches, including the basic V-stitch!
It’s a great pattern because:
- Three different sizes are included in this pattern collection: Small, Medium & Large!
- The handles can be adjusted in size to fit in your hand (clutch) or on your shoulder!
- Tote bags are quick and easy projects to work up!
- Use up yarn you already have in your stash!
- This project works great with cotton yarns, and plant-based fibers!

Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream, Aran Weight #4 yarn (100% cotton; 120 yds/109 m per 2.5 oz/70.9 g skein):
- Small: 1 skein Teal (120 yds)
- Medium: 2 skeins Off White (240 yds)
- Large: 2 Skeins Off White, 1 Skein Yellow (360 yds)
- Check for yarn substitutes!
Materials:
- US H/8 (5.00 mm) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Gauge:
20 pattern Sts = 7”
10 pattern rows = 4.25”
Sizes / Finished Measurements:
- Small: 14” around x 12” tall
- Medium: 21” around x 14” tall
- Large: 28” around x 16” tall
Stitch Key:
- Ch = chain
- Sc = single crochet
- Dc = double crochet
- Hdc = half double crochet
- Sl St = slip stitch
- St(s) = stitch(es)
Specialty Stitches & Techniques:
- Adjustable Loop
- DcV (Double Crochet Vee): Work 2 double crochet stitches into the same space.
Notes:
- Handles can be made in one of two lengths of choice: 7” Clutch (20 Ch), 24” Shoulder (70 Ch).

INSTRUCTIONS (all sizes)
Round 1 (Right Side): Form adjustable loop, Ch 1 (not a St, here and throughout), work 10 Hdc into loop, Sl St into top of first St to join – 10 Hdc
Round 2: Ch 1, work 2 Hdc into each St around, Sl St into top of first St to join – 20 Hdc
Round 3: Ch 1, [Hdc, work 2 Hdc into next St] 10 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 30 Hdc
Round 4: Ch 1, [Hdc into each of next 2 Sts, work 2 Hdc into next St] 10 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 40 Hdc
For Small only, continue to specified instructions.
Round 5: Ch 1, [Hdc into each of next 3 Sts, work 2 Hdc into next St] 10 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 50 Hdc
Round 6: Ch 1, [Hdc into each of next 4 Sts, work 2 Hdc into next St] 10 times, Sl St into top of first St to join – 60 Hdc
