Designing Crochet Layers to Love was all about making crochet clothing feel doable, wearable, and fun.

Whether you’re making your very first crochet top or you’re already comfortable crocheting your own clothes, the styles in this collection are designed to be approachable, adjustable, and a breeze to make and wear.

Every pattern uses basic stitches and simple crochet stitch combinations, so you can focus on creating fabric that looks and feels perfect.

I’ve partnered with Lion Brand exclusively, so that each piece has a boutiques-quality feel on a budget, with yarns you can easily find in your favorite craft store or online.

And because layering is the secret to getting the most out of handmade pieces, each design is meant to pair easily with the clothes you already own—tanks, dresses, jeans, and long sleeves—so your crochet mixes right into your everyday style.

Crochet Layers to Love is the perfect collection for anyone who loves crochet and wants to make something they will be proud to wear.

What Makes Crochet Layers to Love Special

What sets this collection apart is its blend of simplicity, versatility, and real-life wearability.

  • Beginner-friendly stitches: Every pattern uses basic stitches or easy stitch combinations, so the focus stays on creating beautiful fabric rather than complicated techniques.
  • Adjustable fit: I guide you on what to measure and how to choose sizing so you can customize each piece for a fitted, relaxed, or oversized look.
  • Layer-first design: Each garment is intentionally designed to be worn over or under other pieces, making them practical year-round.
  • Boutique feel on a budget: The yarn choices were selected to give each project a polished, ready-to-wear look while still being accessible and easy to find.

In short, these are crochet tops that are meant to be worn—not just admired—so your crochet wardrobe becomes part of your everyday style.

Which Yarns Are Used in the Projects

The projects in this book exclusively feature Lion Brand yarns, chosen for their availability, quality, and range of fibers. You’ll find:

  • Lightweight blends like cotton and bamboo for breathable tanks
  • Soft acrylics that provide structure and color consistency
  • Cotton blends that drape beautifully for layering pieces

And here are the exact yarns used:

Each yarn was selected to complement the specific design—whether that means crisp stitch definition, soft drape, or lightweight comfort—so the finished pieces feel as good as they look.

If you want to learn how to substitute yarn, especially when making crochet tops you love and want to wear, here are some tips that will help: Yarn Substitution For Crocheters

8 Patterns – Crochet Layers to Love

This collection includes eight versatile crochet tops, each with its own personality and style.

You can find all patterns in this Crochet Layers to Love collection on Ravelry, complete with yarns used, finished dimensions, and tons of finished projects for inspiration!

Coboo Tank Top —  This tank top is a simple style that is really easy to make! Worked top down in rows, it begins with front and back panels that are neatly joined together at the sides. The length is easy to adjust by adding or omitting the simple repeating row, and thick straps with neckline are added last for a comfortable fit.

Color Theory Cropped Sweater — Worked from the bottom up in separate pieces, you can measure as you go to get just the right size. The sleeves are made separately, too, so you can adjust the length to fit your style. With delicate eyelets in the fabric and softly gathered cuffs, this piece is comfy and chic!

Cottony Poncho — This top-down crochet poncho is designed to flatter many body shapes and sizes! Made with simple stitches, it is beginner friendly yet far from boring to make. Available in five sizes, it drapes comfortably and features a lacy puff stitch border for a gorgeous finish. Perfect for layering over a tank, dress, or long sleeves—this is a year-round staple!

Deep Plunge Top — This deep V-neck top is created with just two rectangles, worked entirely in rows! Instead of a stiff starting chain, the foundation is made with rows of double crochet, giving you a softer edge that’s easier to work into. The delicate fan stitches create a beautiful peek-a-boo fabric, making this piece light, lacy, and perfect for layering!

Layering Tank Top — This crochet tank top keeps it simple with basic stitches and an easy, top-down design, making it a breeze to crochet. The adjustable length lets you customize the fit, while its classic style pairs effortlessly with jeans or your favorite dress. Whether you’re layering up or keeping it casual, this piece is as easy to make as it is to wear!

Magnolia Top — This top is light, airy, and very simple to adjust! Worked from the neck down in a square shape, this design uses chains and double crochet stitches for an open, flowy feel. Easily adjust the size by adding rounds and tweak the length to your liking. The finishing touch? Delicate ruffles on the sleeves and hem for a soft, feminine flair!

Tied Tank Top — This top-down tank is made from four pentagon-shaped panels, creating a classic V-neck design. Each piece is easy to adjust as you go, so you can create the perfect size. The panels are seamlessly joined, and the delicate shoulder ties add an adjustable and stylish finishing touch.

Vintage Lace Top — The Vintage Lace Top is effortlessly stylish and easy to customize! Made with soft pima cotton and worked top down, you can adjust the fit as you go—neckline, sleeves, torso, and even length. The unique neckline detail is worked in a row before joining, adding a delicate accent to this timeless design.

Together, these patterns give a range of style and fit, so you can explore different looks while building your skills.
