Why I’m Sharing These Social Media Strategies

Let me be super honest with you right off the bat: I’m not a social media strategy expert.

In fact, I’ve probably failed more times than I’ve succeeded when it comes to posting online.

But every time I feel like I’m a flop, I ask myself two things:

  • What am I doing that’s valuable?
  • How can I share that value in a way that actually means something to others?

That’s really what this crochet journey—and this business—has always been about for me: sharing what I find valuable.

And when it comes to social media, I don’t want you glued to your screen so much that you forget to actually crochet.

This isn’t about going viral – it’s about adding value to the world of crochet.

My hope is that the strategies I’m sharing here will spark something—a little inspiration, a helpful tip, a new perspective—so that you spend less time stressing about what to post and more time doing what you love: crocheting.

3 Social Media Strategies

1. Reach + Engagement Are Everything (No, Really!)

Let’s get one thing straight—social media isn’t just about posting pretty pictures and hoping for the best.

If you want to grow a community, attract the best audience, and actually see results from your time online, it all comes down to reach and engagement.

Whether you’re on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, or juggling all of the above like a crafty superhero, these two metrics are your lifeline:

  • Reach = How many people see your content.
  • Engagement = How many people interact with your content (likes, comments, saves, shares, clicks—anything that makes them pause and respond).

Here’s the secret sauce: The more engagement your content gets, the more reach it gets.

That’s because platforms reward posts that get people talking.

The algorithm thinks: “Hey, folks like this! Let’s show it to more people!”—and just like that, your visibility grows.

When I really started paying attention to this, I realized I didn’t need to chase trends or reinvent the wheel.

I just needed to post things that were fun, honest, and easy to connect with. Things like:

These are the types of posts that consistently perform well for me—and not because I got lucky.

It’s because they create connection and conversation.

Pro Tip:

Don’t just guess—use your platform’s insights.

Whether it’s Instagram analytics, Facebook page insights, or even TikTok’s data tools, you’ll find clues to what your audience actually connects with.

Look at what posts got the most interaction, and do more of that – It’s your personal roadmap to better reach.

The bottom line?

If you’re not getting the reach you want, focus on engagement first.

Start meaningful, relatable conversations and the algorithm will help carry your message even further.

2. Post With Purpose (And Consistency!)

Okay, crocheter to crocheter—I’m going to say something bold: Posting randomly whenever inspiration strikes is not a social media strategy. (There, I said it.)

And listen, I’ve been there.

You get a sudden burst of motivation, throw a post up, and hope it takes off.

Sometimes it might, but this is not a long-term strategy that works for everyone.

If you’re serious about building a crochet business, brand, or community online, you need a game plan that works even on days when you’re not feeling wildly creative.

Consistency isn’t about being glued to your phone—it’s about showing up with intention.

When I first started this business years ago, I would post up to 10+ times a day (yep, really), just to figure out what worked.

I’ve since found a rhythm that works for me, and it’s helped me stay visible without burning out.

A better way to view this strategy is like this: A solid posting plan should fit your actual lifestyle.

If you can show up 3–5 times a week with meaningful, engaging content, you’ll see growth—without sacrificing your crochet time. Win-win!

In short? Quality (purpose + consistency) will help you more than quantity.

Here are some samples you can try:

Ask a fun question with a photo:
Something simple like, “Rate this WIP from 1–5!” or “Do you block your projects, or skip it?” sparks quick engagement.

Work-in-progress check-ins:
People love seeing what’s on your hook, and you don’t have to be finished to share something worthwhile.

Behind the scenes:
“This is what you don’t see when I’m trying to take a pattern photo…” (Spoiler alert: it’s usually yarn chaos and bad lighting.)

Throwback projects:
Show off your growth and remind folks how far you’ve come.

Live videos or short-form Reels:
Yes, they feel intimidating at first—but they work. These get prioritized by most platforms and help your personality shine.

Crochet memes or relatable quotes:
Everyone loves a good LOL moment, especially when it feels like “you read my mind.”

Pro Tip:
Find your high-traffic time and make it your golden hour.

For example, you may get the best results between 8am–1pm, so saving your most engaging or visually interesting content for those hours should be tested out.

And yes—your insights will tell you when your audience is most active.

The truth is, your audience isn’t expecting perfection—they’re just looking for connection.

When you post with purpose and consistency, you’re creating a reliable, welcoming space that people want to keep coming back to.

That’s how you build community, trust, and visibility over time.

3. Make Every Post A Connection

Let me let you in on a secret I’ve learned after years of showing up online: If you’re just talking at your audience, you’re missing the magic.

Social media isn’t a soapbox—it’s a coffee chat.

It’s a living, breathing space where people want to feel seen, heard, and connected.

And if you want to grow your crochet community (not just your follower count), you’ve got to turn your posts into conversations.

Think of every caption like a conversation starter.

Whether it’s funny, vulnerable, or helpful—your job isn’t to impress people, it’s to invite them in.

One of my favorite examples? “What’s your crochet story”, or “How did you learn to crochet?”

These simple posts get a flood of comments every time because people love to share their story.

But you don’t have to follow this exact example to start a conversation. Try:

  • “What yarn do you really love right now?”
  • “I need a good podcast while I crochet. What are you listening to?”
  • “Do you weave in ends as you go, or save them all for the end?”

These questions are low-lift for your followers but high-impact for your engagement—and more importantly, they build relationships.

Your audience will start to remember you, trust you, and come back for more.

Pro Tip:
Don’t stress if some posts flop – Not everything needs to be a hit.

Some posts are for discovery, some are for connection, and some are just part of the journey.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s momentum.

So instead of worrying about likes, keep showing up with curiosity.

Keep listening.

Keep inviting your audience into the process.

Whether you’re choosing your next pattern name or debating yarn brands, treat your followers like friends.

Because when people feel like they’re part of your world, they’ll stick around—and they’ll tell others, too.

That’s the magic.

These Strategies Work On Any Platform

While these strategies were born from years of trial and error (and let’s be honest—a lot of experimenting) on Facebook, I’ve seen them thrive across every social platform.

Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, TikTok—they each work a little differently, but the core concept stays the same: real connection over shallow content.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel for each platform.

You just need to wrap your message in a format that feels natural there.

Pro Tip:

Batch your content and then remix it for each platform you want to use.

One crochet tip can become a Reel, a pin, a static post, a carousel, a YouTube Short and a newsletter highlight.

You already have the value—stretch it!

So yes, the platforms may change, but your approach doesn’t have to.

Focus on clarity, creativity, and connection.

That’s how we keep building community—one post, and one conversation, at a time.
