The Medley pattern is a chunky crochet hat that can be worked in 4 different sizes: 16”, 20”, 24” around!

This chunky crochet hat begins in joined rounds of crochet from the top down, using the bobble stitch to create a beautiful look and texture.

Don’t worry, if you’ve never worked the bobble stitch we have a video to help you along the way.

The Medley Crochet hat is named for the yarn it was first created with (Red Heart Yarns Medley), which has since been discontinued.

Why are all great yarns discontinued?

This chunky crochet hat pattern includes a link to yarns you can substitute Medley with, so that you can use another yarn that you love to create the same great look.

The brim in the front is a cute bit of decoration, and a great way to anchor the ties on either end, which helps to balance this style farther down your forehead if you’re going for an oversized slouchy look.

The ties are added last, and you can opt to leave them off by ignoring the long chains to create them (if you want).

Finally, you can add tassels or pom poms to the ends of your ties, and a pom pom to the top of your hat, to give this chunky hat a finished look.

It’s a great pattern because:

  • Hats are quick and easy projects to work up – especially with bulky yarn!
  • Chunky  hats are great projects for winter and cooler months!
  • This project is perfect for lots of different head sizes (16” – 24”), whether you’re looking for a fitted or oversized style.
  • You’ll get to practice a lot of crochet skills: joined rounds, stitch tension, gauge & size, bobble stitches, slip stitches, Front Loops Only, Back Loops Only, finishing techniques & more!
